Mystery quilt finish from Making A Lather

This quiltville mystery quilt has had it's share of mystery. I lost the blocks for Rhododendron mystery quilt after they were all made. Luckily, with a little sleuthing, they were found, and I decided to add this quilt to my 5 quilts goals. In November, the top was ready for borders, but, the corner pieces were missing. It was ready for quilting by Thanksgiving. I made this my December one monthly goal. If I wanted to make the new mystery - Chilhowie, I needed to finish this one.

I pieced a pink and floral ...

frolic finish from Making A Lather

I have finished my one monthly goal for November. I finished frolic quiltville mystery quilt from 2019. I kept current on the clues until it was time to assemble the blocks. That seems to be my undoing. I take longer to do that, I guess. I really like the colors and pattern of the blocks. This will be my 19th finished quiltville mystery quilt. I have a page here that shows them from the first to the last that I have done. I still have rhododendron to quilt and grassy creek to add borders.

I used a flannel back and ...

rhododendron progress from Making A Lather

It has been soooo cold here this past weekend, and we are still recovering from covid. There was nothing to do but work on rhododendron mystery quilt from last year.

I added inner and outer borders. I may change the cornerstones. I could not find the ones I made during the mystery. And I didn't want to be creative. I wanted it done.

I made the back from a sheet and a leftover pink piece from another back. It was almost to much math for me.

I even cut and made the binding. I can see the end in ...

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

2. Boho heart - I have finished a small section of group 3

3. I am working on the sashings of dotty bow ties.  The bow tie blocks are made. I am slowly adding a sashing to the center of each block, 10 at a time ...

rhododendron is pieced from Making A Lather

With just a little bit of fall weather, I took the chance to take a photo outside of Rhododendron mystery quilt, ready for borders. I really am uncomfortable cutting the edge off a quilt. So, I will have to work up the courage. Next, is a turquoise inner border and a pieced outer border. So glad to have this almost done, before the new mystery starts in November. The real mystery is, where did I put the turquoise fabric?

The nasturtiums are still alive.

One monthly goal frolic from Making A Lather

I left frolic as a top in 2020. It required a border decision. I want to finish it for my November one monthly goal. Especially if, I want to make the new quiltville mystery, Chilhowie. I have all 18 of them made until this one, and grassy creek as a top, and rhododendron almost a top. I have a page at the top of the blog with pictures in order. I am not going to add another border. It is time to move it along.

I was gifted 2 big bags of scraps from someone who has not been converted ...

5 quilts October 31, 2022 from Making A Lather

And just like that- October is over. My goodness, it was fast. I have had a swollen sore thumb and have not felt like sewing for a week. It will be 3 weeks before the hand doctor can see me. That gives me a time line. One or two days before the appointment, it will be miraculously cured. haha

Someone suggested that I move, a quilt to be quilted, into the 5 quilts, and, I thought it was a brilliant idea, so, I will drop the rainbow scrap challenge as part of 5 quilts.

circa rows from Making A Lather

I had a wonderful sew day with my quilt guild. We met at the library and had a pitch in lunch - yummy

I worked on three projects. I have started making blocks for dotty bow ties ( I need 80), And, I added the third row to rhododendron mystery quilt. Then, I could settle in, and sew triangles to squares until I was too tired to go any further.

I made 2 more rows  and sewed them to the top. I didn't get a picture after I sewed them together circa 1880 was a swap I participated in with my ...

rhododendron mystery progress from Making A Lather

I have been working on the easy short rows of the rhododendron mystery. I have the top left 3 rows together. And, now, the bottom right 2 rows together.

And Saturday I finished the 3rd bottom right row. I have been making the long sashing rows as leader/ enders as I work on my 5 quilts or the rainbow scrap challenge projects. It makes it seem like it is going quickly.

I have a binding to attach, some scraps to cut, and a section of boho heart quilt to sew.

We have our fingers crossed that this pumpkin plant will ...

mystery quilt from Making A Lather

I am finally plugging along on the missing rhododendron mystery quilt. I am still not sure I have the  hourglass blocks turned right. So far. it is fitting together pretty well. I can still see some staining, but, the worse parts are gone. The staining effected the setting triangles the most. I soaked them in a solution of dawn dish soap and a color catcher in my kitchen sink, just to see if it was going to work. I made sure they were not touching each other. I swished the water around them gently from time to time. It took ...

 last  report August 5th

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - orange- playing catch up on my star and crown blocks in purple. I don't think I will be making any of these blocks for the orange month, although, I haven't looked in my stash. There may be a cheddar or a smokey orange. We will see.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -    I have found the blocks. But that is another story here. I soaked and washed the stained blocks, and, I have started with the short rows. I am having a hard time with the directional blocks.

blocks found from Making A Lather

My Granddaughter was here for a visit and decided to reorganize my extra room. I had no idea what she was doing, until it was too late. I use that room for a holding cell of blocks ready to make into tops and tops ready to be quilted, and unfortunately, as storage for whatever I don't know where to home them. I knew that this little set back, for me, was probably the reason I had lost my rhododendron mystery blocks. This week, when it was raining, I asked my hubby to accompany me to that room and make ...

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - orange- I made a few bow ties, even orange. With the announcement of the new leader/ender challenge from Quiltville, I decided to look back at the ones I have started and not finished, rather than start the new one. This was the earliest one I have not finished, and, I sorted it out and decided to work on this for a bit. If my calculations are correct, I only need 30 + more little blocks to start a top.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -    I have lost the blocks. It has been too long and I don't remember where I put them. I am cleaning a whole room looking for them, so far, no luck.

3. Boho heart -Nothing new here. I am at a part that intimidates me. I can't just pick up something and quickly sew it together, so I procrastinate.

4. maple leaves - I need ...
